A group of children went with a couple of adults to St Albans Abbey on Saturday 9th May to take part in a day long event to celebrate “the contribution of children in the life of the church and of wider society”.
The whole abbey was taken over by lots and lots of activities and performances for the children to take part in and enjoy. These were all organised by the Children’s Work Advisers for the St Albans Diocese.
The main part of the abbey was cleared of chairs and we opened with a short act of worship led by the Bishop of Hertford.
Then, with a short break for lunch, the children could take part in activities themed around six continental areas - Africa, Asia, Caribbean, South America, Europe & the Middle East.
Our children.......
had their faces painted,
threw toilet rolls at a toilet,
went in a planetarium,
played drums,
sampled the delights of a chocolate fountain,
tried limbo dancing,
made and painted various crafts
and watched the story of Joseph being acted out.
There was masses more to do but it was impossible to cover even of fraction of what was on offer!
Finally we finished with a closing worship session, lead by the Bishop of Bedford - and an illusionist!
It was a fantastic day out, only made possible by the tremendous effort of masses of volunteers running all the activities, for which we are truly grateful.
